CHAIRS
a Farce of Death
Chairs is an absurd story about a Man who as he thinks he is dead, finds himself in Here, where the lost Souls wait, to figure out who he is and move on.
Only problem is that he finds it hard to remember anything in Here, and while he struggles to recreate his life amongst the shadows, an invisible production crew appears in the Darkness, convincing him to play a part in their show.
This is easier said than done, as the characters are inexperienced and ruthless, making the Man’s experience unbearable.
It is an intense journey into the experience of death, with a view over life, real and imaginary.
At the end, The Man learns the importance and beauty of friendship and companionship & the Crew come to the understanding that there is always more than just one way of doing things and the final product matters less than the experience of the process, a continuous, repetitive creation and recreation of everything and nothing.
Finally, it is a little farce, as none of the events really happen as they are told. The end reveals a middle-aged Man, in a room, alone. He was attempting to commit suicide. He opens his eyes. He smiles. He looks up and walks out of the door.
